In my Amish cookbook that came from the Amish in Pennsylvania, there are several recipes for fried pies, and some recipes for baking them, however if they are baked, they wouldn't be fried pies, hmmmm?

Fried Apple Turnovers.

2/3 cup granulated sugar
2 cups tart apples, chopped
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 pkg of refrigerator biscuits OR
1/4 cup butter
your favorite pie crust recipe.

Combine sugar, cinnamon, butter and apples in a sauce pan; simmer, stirring occasionally until apples are tender. Separate biscuits and roll each into an oval shape, about 5 inches long. Place 1 tbsp. of apple filling on half of oval, fold dough over filling and seal edges with a fork. (Be sure they are sealed or filling will leak out.) Fry in 375 degree deep hot fat, turning once for about 1 minute or until golden brown. Drain and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve warm. Makes 10 turnovers.

If you prefer to bake these, brush the top of them once u have them made, with buttermilk or beaten egg. Bake at 450 degrees until brown. They will brown quickly at this temperature.

Hope this helps you, Linda.
Everyone have a great day, Esther.our glaze recipe and use the Sprite in place of some of the water.
