Return to July Recipe Index
This is for Susie, Indy from the 7-16-2010 Newsletter.
This is what I know as Hamburger Gravy. I grew up on it and
still make it. I love it over biscuits or mashed potatoes.
Can make a meal of it. Pat So Cal
Pat's White Hamburger Gravy
1 pound ground beef (not to lean about 80/20%)
1 small onion, diced
1 small bell pepper, diced (optional)
1/4 cup flour
2 to 3 cups milk (I use 2 cups 2% then add more if needed)
salt and pepper to taste (see note)
Fry hamburger, onion and bell pepper (if using) in a large
skillet until meat is cooked and onions are a little soft,
do not drain grease. Add flour to
skillet with meat mixture. Mix and cook for a couple of
minutes. Add milk, whisk and simmer until gravy thickens. If
gravy starts to thicken to much add more milk until the
desired thickness (I like thick gravy). Add salt and pepper
to taste.
Serve over biscuits, toast, potatoes, mashed or fried, rice
or noodles.
NOTE: I sometimes use onion powder in place of the onion.
Also sometimes I add a little garlic powder and or seasoning
salt. It is up to you as to the seasonings you use.
Nancy, I am sending my prayers and good wishes for your up
coming surgery. Hope it goes will. Don't try to do to much
to soon. We all will live
(though with anticipation) if you can't get out the
newsletter as often as usual. I know all of us Nancylanders
would rather have you well and fully
recovered before trying to do to much.
