Hot Dog Sauce
1 cup onions, chopped
1 lb extra lean ground beef
4 cups water
2 tbsp chili powder
2 tbsp paprika
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp clove
1 tsp salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1 15-oz can tomato sauce
4 tbsp sugar
4 tbsp cornstarch
Process onions until finely chopped. Saute the onions and
add ground meat. Toss the meat until it has lost its pink
color. Add ingredients except cornstarch. Simmer 2 hours,
stirring now and then. Dissolve cornstarch in some cold
water and add to meat and simmer until thickened. I use a
lid on the saucepan with a steam vent to help thicken the
sauce, or leave the lid slightly ajar.
I place a hot dog on a hot dog roll from the bulk section of
the bakery department, spritz on some onion mustard and
spoon on about 2 tablespoons of the hot dog sauce.
Can also add a dash of Louisiana Hot Sauce.
