My aunt taught me to make this frosting when I was a
teenager. I suppose you can use other flavors of syrup,
strawberry, etc., which they didn't have then.
Aunt Rose’s Chocolate Hungarian Frosting
1 stick unsalted butter, room temperature
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Hershey’s syrup and 2 tbsp cocoa powder, if desired
Put butter and powdered sugar in Kitchen Aid or other mixer.
Whip until blended. Add vanilla extract and blend. With
mixer running, slowly add Hershey’s syrup until enough syrup
is added to taste. Can add some cocoa powder to the powdered
sugar for a stronger chocolate flavor. Whip until the
consistency of whipped cream. Frost 8 or 9 inch square cake.
Serve immediately (by next day frosting will flop). It will
still be delicious, but it won't look like chocolate whipped
cream anymore.
