Since it finally cooled down quite a bit, I just finished
putting my spaghetti with meat sauce in the crock pot for
dinner. We will have a green salad and garlic bread with it.
It smells so heavenly!
Slow Cooker Spaghetti and Meat Sauce
1 1/2 lb. browned ground beef – I used 1 lb. today
8 oz. or ½ pkg. mild ground Italian sausage, browned with
ground beef – did not use
8 Roma tomatoes, fine diced (you may want to use more) OR
1 (28 oz.) can whole Italian style tomatoes, cut up and
undrained – I used 6 Romas and 1 large beefsteak tomato that
were all home grown
1 pkg. fresh mushrooms, sliced – did not use today
1 lg. onion, finely diced
1 large green bell pepper, finely diced
1 large red bell pepper, finely diced
1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
1 (15 oz.) can tomato puree
2 to 3 cans (8 oz. ea.) tomato sauce
1 c. dry red wine
1 ½ tsp. minced garlic
2 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. dried Italian seasoning, crushed
1/8 - ¼ tsp. ground black pepper - or to taste
1 bay leaf – did not use today
12 oz. dried pasta, cooked and drained
shredded Italian cheese
Brown ground beef and sausage till browned in large skillet.
Meanwhile, combine remainder of ingredients, minus the
pasta, in crock-pot. Cover and cook on high heat till meat
is browned. Add browned meat and cover; turn crackpot to low
and cook on low heat for 8 to10 hours. Or you may cook on
high heat for 4 to 5 hours. Remove bay leaf and discard.
Pass pasta and sauce and cheese. Makes 6 servings. Listed
under Italian on Nancy’s message board.
