Thought I would send this great tip to our readers. Instead
of throwing away a finished spice jar, wash it, dry it and
use to put powder sugar, cinnamon sugar or a mix of your own
spices.

Nancy, Rachel in NM newsletter 6-5-11 was looking for peanut
butter cookie recipes. This is my all time favorite recipe
that was given to me by a long time friend. I love baking
these cookies because I always get such good compliments on
them. Betty in MD
Irresistible Peanut Butter Cookies
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1 egg
2 Tablespoons milk
1 Tablespoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup white chocolate morsels
Preheat oven to 350° degrees. Line 3 cookie sheets with
parchment paper. Mix butter, white sugar and brown sugar.
Add peanut butter, egg, milk, vanilla, baking soda, baking
powder, salt, and mix well. Add flour and mix until well
blended. Fold in the white chocolate morsels. Put a scoop of
dough into your hand and roll into a smooth ball. Place the
balls of dough onto the lined cookie sheets. Put a bit of
sugar on a small plate. Press a fork into the sugar and then
into each cookie. Press in both directions to create a
crisscross design. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Don't
over-bake, unless you like a crunchier cookie. Let cool for
1 minute on baking sheets before transferring cookies to a
wire rack to cool completely.

This cake is one I keep on hand to satisfy a sweet tooth with very
little fat. It’s a hit with young AND old.
Pineapple Angel Cake
Betty Crocker Angel Food Cake Mix (or one that has only ONE packet
in the box)
20 oz. can crushed pineapple in it’s own juice
Spray a 9 x 13 glass pan and set your oven to 350 degrees. Mix the
two above ingredients well and pour into prepared pan.
Bake for 30 minutes and remove from oven promptly. This serves 12
nice servings and counts as (2) points on the Weight Watchers
Program.
You can dress up this dessert by adding a dab of Cool Whip and add a
tablespoon of Cherry Pie Filling on top.
Recipe Variation: Use a 20 oz. can of cherry pie filling in place of
the pineapple. Makes a nice deep pink cake and a dab of Cool Whip on
top makes it festive, as well. The possibilities are endless! I
received this from a friend in my Weight Watchers class.

I was in the hospital for vertigo this past weekend and my son
brought up my favorite cookies. He buys them in a very expensive
store called "Elegant Dining". They are the most delicious cookies
anyone ever could eat. He thinks they cost about $25 or more a lb
for the cookies, but they are out of this world. Does anyone have
this recipe called Florentine Lace cookies. I looked it up on google
but nothing came up with the ingredients that were on these cookies.
Most recipes were basically a lace cookie.
Here is what I can figure out: They were a chocolate bottom, next
layer was a lace toffee and then it
had cranrasins, raisin, nuts and I don't know what
else, but if anyone has a recipe that duplicates this, I know
Nancy's gals would come up with it and I would be so grateful.
Camille, Commack, L.I.,NY
Please do not overcook the pork because it will become tough and
dry. Properly cooked pork is juicy and tender. Brown the chops
quickly. They will cook completely while they are simmering with the
vegetables. Sorry, I don't remember the original source.
Mouth Watering Pork Chops
Serves: 4
Cooking Time: 40 min - total
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
4 thick pork chops (6 to 8 ounces each)
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 medium-sized tomato, chopped (1½ cups)
4 cloves garlic, chopped (I used 6 cloves,)
2 cups sliced mushrooms (I used fresh)
1 teaspoon seasoning and browning sauce
1 teaspoon minced fresh parsley
1/2 cup white wine or water (i used chicken broth)
Place the flour, salt, and pepper in a shallow dish; mix well. Coat
the chops with the flour mixture. In a large skillet, heat the
butter over medium heat; add the chops and brown on both sides until
golden, about 4 minutes per side. Remove the chops from the pan and
set aside. Reduce the heat to low and add the remaining ingredients
to the liquid in the skillet; stir well.
Add the chops to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 25 minutes or
until no pink remains in the center of the chops.br>
Notes
Use a very ripe tomato for the very best flavor.
If you add a bit more chicken broth, you can use it over rice or
potatoes.

To H who wants to make graduation caps. How about making larger ones
using York's Peppermint Patties?
Artemis in NYC
To the lady making the graduation hats. I made them for a graduation
party on Saturday and everyone thought I was a generous. I bought my
after eight mints at my local grocery market. They were $2.99 which
I thought was a bit pricy but I think if you check the candy
department in your local market you may have good luck. Sometimes
the Pharmacy carries that type of candy also. I tried Walmart and
they did not have them. Good lock.
Joan from Ma.
Newsletter June 6th,2011 for “H”.
We have made many of those graduation caps and found using the small
“M&M’s” for the button and cutting different colored licorice for
the tassel worked real well. We bought generic chocolate covered
graham crackers, a bag of the peanut butter cups, and chocolate
frosting to hold them together and used the school color for the
button and tassel. Turned out real nice and was a hit with everyone.
Good luck with yours.
Lois in Grafton
For the reader who was looking for ideas making
graduation caps, try
using Keebler chocolate covered graham cookies. You may have to trim
them some. Good Luck!

This is for H who is looking for something to use in place of the
mint candies for graduation caps. I used small chocolate covered
graham cracker cookies when I made the grad caps.

There are many natural remedies for shingles on the internet.
Athena in DE
In the June 6th newsletter, some women were talking about shingles.
I too, had them a few years ago, very painful.
Anyway, there is now a shot that you can get from your Doctor so you
will not get them again.
My Sister got hers, but I haven’t gotten mine yet, as I just moved
to a new area, but will be checking it out soon. Not sure if
insurance pays for it, but I still think it’s worth doing. Barb, Fl.
For jsham AR, Lesleigh in PA and dd Wichita KS. I cannot thank you
enough for all the suggestions concerning my shingles.
I think I will call my doctor today and ask about the steroids. I
have fought forever from taking steroids, but this just might be the
time that "broke the camel's back." I have used a heat pad and it
does help, especially with the pain. If the sensitivity would go
away, I think I would be able to tolerate the pain better but the
sensitivity is miserable as I cannot stand my right arm to brush
against my side.
