This is for Leah looking for French Onion Soup. I have had this recipe since 1981..my dad & I are the only ones who like it; I make it for him which isn't often enough! Its very easy and
quick.

French Onion Soup

6 T butter or margarine
6 large onions, thinly sliced, about 6 cups
3 - 10 1/2 oz. cans of beef broth
3 c water
1 t sugar
1/2 t. Worcestershire sauce
1/4 t. salt
5 slices French Bread (1" thick)
3/4 lb Swiss or gruyere cheese, thinly sliced

About 45 minutes before serving, sauté onions in butter until transparent and golden brown. Stir in beef broth, water, sugar, Worcestershire & salt over high heat. Heat to a boil then reduce to low. Cover and simmer 15 minutes. Meanwhile, toast bread in broiler until brown on both sides. Arrange cheese on toast and broil until cheese is melted. Place cheese topped bread in bowls and pour soup on top.
